Our Mission

The Sarah Lawrence College Archives collects, preserves, and makes accessible materials documenting the history of the College from its conception in 1924 to the present. The College Archives is the official repository for College records having permanent historical or administrative value. Materials in the collection include official administrative and committee records, publications, theses, photographs, memorabilia, artifacts, audio-visual materials, and digital records. The College Archives also maintains a collection of faculty papers and other manuscript collections related to the College. The collections are open to the College community and scholars and researchers around the world.

What We Collect

The Sarah Lawrence College Archives welcomes donations that supplement the official records of the College and help document the College's administrative, academic, and social history.

We are particularly interested in materials that capture the student experience, both in and beyond the classroom. A photo taken yesterday at a party is as valuable to preserving that memory as one taken fifty years ago on the North Lawn. To inquire about making a donation, please call or email us with a description of the materials you would like to donate. Digital materials from students and alumni may be eligible for direct submission through this form.

We exclusively collect materials related to Sarah Lawrence College, and so do not collect general alumni papers or other material unrelated to the college.

From Students and Alumni

We are interested in the following materials that document your time as a student at Sarah Lawrence:

  • Diaries or journals
  • Correspondence sent home while at Sarah Lawrence
  • Scrapbooks
  • Photographs
  • Syllabi
  • Films and audiotapes
  • Commencement
  • Student organizational material
  • Reunions

In addition, we are always interested in additional information about events that occurred on campus including, but not limited to, academics, the arts, athletics, activism, and dormitory life.

Students and Alumni may email us regarding donations or may use our submission form to submit digital materials directly to the archivist.

Conference Work

Selected undergraduate conference work is available through Digital Commons; please review our terms of submission for current and recent students. We are actively pursuing ways to expand this collection showcasing the unique work of our students. Students and Faculty are welcome to contact the archivist with questions.
